Dr. Steve Newman is originally from Sumter, S.C. He attended Wofford College as a Benjamin Wofford scholar, graduating magna cum laude with a B.S. in Biology. While at Wofford, Dr. Newman was actively involved in a variety of organizations including serving as a delegate to Campus Union, a member of Blue Key honor society, Kappa Alpha fraternity, Campus Christian Fellowship and Young Life. He also enjoyed volunteering with Meals on Wheels as well as participating in an after school tutoring program for underprivileged children. In addition, during his freshman year of college, he was honored by being selected into the Early Acceptance Program at the Medical University of South Carolina School of Medicine. During his medical school training, Dr. Newman received a student summer research grant from the Storm Eye Institute, worked at the Institute of Psychiatry as a student professional assistant, served on the student alumni board, and volunteered at the Charleston homeless shelter.
Dr. Newman continued his medical training at the Greenville Hospital System completing a residency in Family Medicine. As an intern, he was privileged to receive the Lily and G.D. Jackson Award “as a young physician of exceptional promise”. Upon completing residency, Dr. Newman has served as Vice Chair of the Department of Family Medicine at the Greenville Hospital System, chairman of the Medical Staff Performance Improvement Committee, a chairman of the Medical Executive Committee; as well as, President of the Medical Staff at the Greenville Hospital System University Medical Center. He volunteers regularly at the Greenville Free Medical Clinic where he has also functioned as chairman of their Board of Directors. Dr. Newman enjoys the opportunity to teach resulting in professional affiliations with Georgetown University, the Medical University of South Carolina and Clemson University. He is Board certified with the American Academy of Family Physicians and serves on the medical staff of both Bon Secours St. Francis Health System and the Greenville Hospital System University Medical Center.
In addition to his medical practice, Dr. Newman also is co-founder of NuLifeRx – an innovative medical company whose focus is on corporate health, employee wellness and disease prevention. Dr. Newman, his wife and two children are active members of the Greenville Associate Reform Presbyterian Church. In his spare time, Dr. Newman enjoys music, spending time with his family, being outdoors and cooking.
